As a self-taught artist, Ashley uses a unique process and technique of hand-tearing vintage papers into small scraps and pieces to recreate more significant scenes of surrealism. 

Her process starts with an image or multiple images catching her eye and inspiring her.  Sometimes, she searches for her next inspiration and other times, it happens organically. Once she has a vision, the next step is identifying colors she will use and sourcing content that matches those tones.

The artist uses a wide range of materials to bring her vision to life, but all of them are sourced from her collection of pop culture relics from her favorite decades -the 1940s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. These vintage print materials include everything from old magazines and comic books to song lyrics and wallpaper.

The artist's initial focus is primarily on finding scraps with the right color hues and tones. However, her choices become more intentional and specific as the larger image takes shape. The artist likes to refer to these as the smaller stories in her larger fantasy world. From afar, you focus on the bigger picture, but as the viewer moves closer, these smaller stories and photographs begin to reveal themselves in the large fantasy she has created.  

Each piece is an homage to nostalgic pop culture and a representation of the artist herself, with a particular sentiment behind every exciting layer. She hopes the piece will become as special to those who view it as it is to her.
